A 4K projector gives you a 100"–150" image for significantly less than a TV of comparable size. Above 85", projectors almost always win on price-per-inch. The tradeoff is ambient light sensitivity — projectors work best in rooms you can control the light in. For rooms with windows you can't fully cover, a bright TV is often the better call.
No — we regularly install full Dolby Atmos systems in living rooms, basements, and bonus rooms. The main requirements are enough wall space for the screen or TV, enough ceiling height for Atmos (8' minimum), and a location for the receiver rack. We've made systems work in spaces most installers would turn down.
8 feet is the practical minimum. Below that, in-ceiling speakers are too close to the listening position and the overhead effect is less convincing. At 8' and above, in-ceiling Atmos sounds genuinely immersive — noticeably better than upfiring modules at any ceiling height.
Entry-level 5.1 systems with a 4K TV start around $2,500–$4,000 installed. A full 7.1.4 Atmos system with a 4K projector and 120" screen typically runs $6,000–$12,000 depending on speaker and receiver grade. We provide a full itemized quote after the room assessment.
Absolutely. Common upgrades: adding Atmos height channels to an existing 5.1 system, upgrading to a 4K projector, running wire in-wall to replace exposed cables, or doing a full Audyssey calibration if it was never done properly.
