System Formats
Surround sound formats vary significantly in immersion and complexity. The right choice depends on your room size, ceiling height, and how seriously you want to experience film audio.
Front left, center, front right, two rear surrounds, and a subwoofer. The standard format for most living room theaters and dedicated media rooms. Excellent immersion for its simplicity. Right for rooms under 300 sq ft with standard ceiling height.
Adds two side surround channels to the 5.1 layout for a wider, more enveloping soundstage. Better for larger rooms where rear speakers would be too far away. Ideal for dedicated home theaters with 15+ foot room depth.
Object-based 3D audio with height channels — sound placed precisely in 3D space, including overhead. Thunderstorms rumble above you. Helicopters pass overhead. The ceiling must be able to accept in-ceiling speakers or Atmos-enabled upfiring modules. The gold standard for Lancaster home theaters.
Receiver & Speaker Brands
We spec Denon, Marantz, and Yamaha receivers paired with Klipsch, SVS, Polk Audio, and Focal speakers — because these brands deliver the best performance-per-dollar for Lancaster homeowners at every budget tier.
Our primary receiver brands — both made by the same parent company, with Denon focused on features and Marantz on audio quality. Both support Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and HDMI 2.1 passthrough.
High-efficiency speakers that sound loud and dynamic at modest power levels. Excellent for home theaters where impact and clarity are the priority. The Reference series is our most-installed floor-standing line.
The subwoofer matters as much as any speaker in the system. SVS subwoofers deliver tight, accurate bass rather than the boomy, one-note bass of cheaper subs. The SB-2000 Pro is our go-to for most Lancaster media rooms.
Frequently Asked
No. A well-designed 5.1 or 7.1 system works beautifully in a living room or media room. Dedicated theaters benefit from acoustic treatment and light control, but excellent surround sound is achievable in any room with proper speaker placement and calibration.
Dolby Atmos is object-based 3D audio with height channels. It places sound in 3D space — rain falls from above, a helicopter passes overhead. If your room has accessible ceiling space for in-ceiling speakers, Atmos is absolutely worth the additional investment. It transforms the movie-watching experience.
A solid 5.1 system with a Denon receiver, Klipsch speakers, and SVS subwoofer runs $2,500–$5,000 installed. A 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos system with in-ceiling height channels runs $6,000–$15,000. We provide an exact quote after assessing your room.
Yes — always. We run Audyssey MultEQ, Dirac Live, or MCACC auto-calibration and then tune manually for your specific room. Every surround system we install is calibrated before we leave. Uncalibrated surround sound is the most common reason systems don't sound the way they should.
